Google has announced a significant update to Gemini Spark, Google's 24/7 personal AI agent launched at Google I/O 2026. Gemini Spark is now available in the Gemini macOS app as a capable AI agent that goes beyond the simple chat window and tackles complex tasks across your desktop files and apps.
What's New with Gemini Spark for macOS?
Gemini Spark works with macOS seamlessly. For instance, on macOS, it can sort PDFs in your Downloads into specific folders. Alongside this, it can connect to your desktop and Google Workspace, where you can ask Spark to create a budget sheet using the invoices saved locally on your Mac, and then create a proper schedule to update them regularly. Google has emphasized that Gemini Spark can only access files for which users explicitly grant permission to, ensuring privacy and security.
Remote Task Execution Is Coming Soon
In the announcement, Google has also unveiled about the remote task execution which is coming soon. This feature will allow users to assign multiple-step tasks to Spark from their phones while they are away from their computers. For example, a user can ask Spark to locate a sales report on a Mac, extract revenue figures, and send it via email to the user, without physically accessing the device. This capability aims to transform Spark into a truly autonomous personal assistant that can work across devices.
Expanded App Integrations with Third-Party Services
Another major expansion to Spark is the integration with Connected Apps. It works well with Google Tasks and Google Keep, allowing users to convert notes stored in Keep into action items in Tasks seamlessly. With this, Spark is integrating with third-party apps like Canva, OpenTable, Zillow Rentals, Dropbox, and Instacart. The integration allows users to perform a range of actions, such as sharing files, designing marketing materials, ordering groceries, booking restaurant reservations, and more. The connected app integration is rolling out first on the web platform, with macOS support arriving in the coming weeks.
Gemini Spark Tracks So You Don't Have To
Another noteworthy addition is the ability of Gemini Spark to track topics and react to events in real-time. Users can instruct AI to continuously track news websites, blogs, social media, shopping, weather, sports, and even send you a financial report when a stock reaches a threshold. This way, users don't need to manually monitor information across sources; Gemini Spark does it in real time.
Gemini Spark for macOS is currently available in beta exclusively for Google AI Ultra subscribers aged 18 and older in the United States.
Eligible users can download the app at https://gemini.google/mac/ to get started. With desktop automation, proactive monitoring, and deeper app integration, Google is positioning Gemini Spark as a powerful AI productivity assistant for automating complex workflows for both personal and professional tasks.
