Spotify, the popular audio streaming platform, has unveiled the new Lossless Listening feature for its Premium users on September 10, 2025. Paid subscribers of Spotify will now be able to experience higher audio quality with maximum flexibility and control.
Lossless on Spotify takes the previous highest quality, โVery Highโ, to a new level, allowing listeners to enjoy their favorite music with every detail. The platform has announced this advancement as a commitment to improve the Spotify Premium version while allowing listeners to discover and enjoy their preferred music.
Notably, the lossless feature enables listeners with music streaming in 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC, which is supposed to be the highest resolution audio format on the audio streaming platform.
The feature is currently rolling out for Premium users in select markets, including Australia, the US, the UK, and Japan. Spotify further announces to expand the accessibility of the lossless feature by October.
What Exactly is Lossless Listening?
Lossless listening refers to a richer and more detailed listening experience. It offers the highest audio quality for listening to music on the Spotify app. The feature uses a type of compression that reduces file size without discarding any of the original audio recording and quality.
Since the new feature is capable of playing songs in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC, listeners will be able to unlock the highest quality of music while listening to their loved tracks.
Jack Mason, Spotify Studios Producer and Engineer, has shared in an Instagram Reel, โLossless refers to when thereโs no change between what you deliver to a streaming service and what the listener hearsโ.
With lossless listening, Spotify aims to offer a more personalized and flexible music experience by acknowledging the fact that every listener listens differently. For this purpose, the platform provides custom settings for users using cellular network, Wi-Fi, and downloads, as well as audio quality options of Low, Normal, High, Very High, and the newly unveiled Lossless. It is built to unlock advanced flexibility and control in your music listening experience.
Gustav Gyllenhammar, the VP Subscriptions of Spotify, has remarked, โWeโve taken time to build this feature in a way that prioritizes quality, ease of use, and clarity at every step, so you always know whatโs happening under the hood. With Lossless, our premium users will now have an even better listening experience.โ
How to Experience Lossless Listening?
To enable Lossless listening, users primarily need to subscribe to the Spotify Premium version. All users need to enable the new feature manually on every device. Here are the steps to turn it on-
