The new managed Node.js hosting offering helps developers and agencies deploy production-ready applications, without unpredictable usage-based bills or the operational burden of managing infrastructure.
BROOMFIELD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cloudways, part of DigitalOcean Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: DOCN), a scalable cloud for digital native enterprises, today announced the general availability of Velocity, a new managed Node.js hosting offering. Velocity combines infrastructure simplicity with VPS-like control and predictable economics in order to help teams move applications into production with reduced server administration.
The launch extends the Cloudways® managed hosting experience beyond WordPress® and into modern application workloads, giving both new and existing customers a simpler and faster way from code to production. Developers and builders currently have to choose between serverless platforms that can become restrictive, unpredictable at scale and costly with raw VPS infrastructure that requires more operational work for managing the VPS and workload performance. Velocity sits between those two models; Node.js applications can now be deployed through Git®, while Cloudways manages infrastructure tasks including server maintenance, patching, SSL and backups.
As AI-assisted development tools accelerate prototyping, teams need a clear path to running and maintaining applications in production. Developers must balance the convenience of managed platforms with their requirements for cost visibility and control. Agencies face an additional challenge: keeping hosting costs predictable so they can price client work confidently and protect margins on fixed-priced retainers.
Velocity addresses these needs with managed, persistent infrastructure and flat, predictable monthly pricing, giving teams greater visibility into hosting costs and reducing day-to-day operational work.
Built for production Node.js applications
Velocity supports Server-Side Rendered (SSR) and Client-Side Rendered (CSR) applications, alongside Express-based API backends and Next.JS®. Git-based deployment and framework-specific onboarding help developers move from code to production without having to administer PM2, NGINX or day-to-day server administration themselves.
Applications run on persistent server resources, supporting workloads such as long-running APIs and backend services. Developers retain visibility and control over their application, services and deployment history, while Cloudways manages the supporting infrastructure.
The offering, at no additional cost, also includes security and performance features such as Cloudflare Enterprise®, WAF, DDoS protection and malware scanning.
For agencies already using Cloudways for WordPress, Velocity provides a route to hosting headless builds, modern JavaScript frontends and standalone applications without introducing another hosting vendor or operational model. For teams managing Node.js applications directly on a VPS, it provides a simpler route from prototype to production and from first deployment to sustained growth.
Helping Regal IT bring a Shopify application to production
One early customer illustrates how this approach can simplify production Node.js hosting.
UK-based ecommerce agency Regal IT selected Velocity to take its RMA Pro Shopify application from local development into production. The agency had found that alternative hosting options required it to configure and maintain multiple infrastructure components separately.
Velocity brought Git-based deployment alongside managed backups, SSL, patching and infrastructure into one service. This allowed Regal IT to spend more time developing and testing the application rather than maintaining the environment underneath it. The flat, predictable pricing also gave the agency greater visibility into the real hosting costs.
Regal IT now plans to use Velocity for additional Shopify apps and SaaS products as its application portfolio expands.
Suhaib Zaheer, SVP & General Manager at Cloudways by DigitalOcean, commented: “Developers and agencies tell us they want predictable hosting costs, less infrastructure work, while keeping control of their applications, services and deployments. Velocity brings those needs together in a managed Node.js offering that helps them move from development to production.
“For agencies, understanding hosting costs helps them plan client projects and protect margins. For developers, having the infrastructure managed means more time to build, improve and grow their applications. Velocity extends Cloudways’ longstanding promise: removing infrastructure friction so developers and businesses can focus on building, launching and growing what comes next.”
Velocity is generally available from September 14th, 2026; plans start at $20 per month.
