OpenAI is piloting a new experience for ChatGPT users in a few regions, as confirmed in the company’s release notes. It’s a new group chat feature that lets users interact and collaborate in conversations. This feature is available to ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro users on the web and mobile in a few regions, including New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.
You want to go on a nice vacation with your family, or you need to talk about a new project. Group chat is there to make your collaboration, exchange ideas, and reach your objectives. ChatGPT will be able to recommend ideal destinations and assist you with summaries of your project, among other things.
How Does the Group Feature Work in ChatGPT?
Start a group chat by tapping the people icon located in the top right corner of a new or existing chat.
You can invite others to the chat through a link that can be shared with 1-20 people.
When you're ready to join or start your first group chat, create a profile picture with your name, username, and photo so others can learn a little more about you in conversation.
Group chat messages can be easily found in a new section with categories in the sidebar, marked as group chats.
Now, let’s know about some key benefits the group chat feature comes with! ChatGPT has also been trained with new social behavior. It will not automatically reply to the chat in the conversation.
It also has the sense of when to respond and remain silent; it follows the conversations properly. By mentioning ChatGPT in the message, the user can force ChatGPT to respond to a particular message. Furthermore, ChatGPT is more human-like since it can reply to messages with emojis.
In WhatsApp, where you chat in groups, add or remove people, and more, ChatGPT comes with similar perks. Here, you can rename the group chat, add or remove users from the group, mute chats, and even set custom instructions on how ChatGPT would respond in group chat. ChatGPT continues to prioritize user privacy. That is, your ChatGPT memory is not utilized in these group chats. Alongside, when adding someone to the chat, you are inviting a member to the group chat.
Lastly, according to OpenAI, Group chats are the start of ChatGPT to be an ideal space to share, collaborate, and interact with others. The company will further expand the feature globally based on user feedback.
