Google’s latest Android messaging announcement is creating worries among the work employees. The new update lets Google share text messages with your employer, keeping the personal work chats no longer private.
The company is introducing Android RCS Archival feature for Pixel and android phones that lets IT teams store and review text conversations on work-managed devices. This feature helps organizations meet compliance requirements while maintaining the high security of Google Messages.
Moreover, it is worth noting that the capability is designed only for work-managed devices and does not affect personal users. There was a buzz online, wherein users believed Google shares text messages by default.
However, in reality, the change impacts only devices owned or controlled by employers. Personal phones, as said earlier, won’t be affected and will benefit from end-to-end encryption, keeping private chats hidden. The RCS Archival feature is primarily applicable to regulated industries and adds RCS archiving to the existing SMS archiving.

To access messages, employers need to meet specific conditions, such as:

- RCS archival features must be enabled.
- The user should receive a notification confirming monitoring.

According to Google, “The new capability available on Google Pixel and other Android Enterprise devices offer employees all the benefits of RCS like read receipts, typing indicators, and end-to-end encryption between Android devices – while ensuring your organization meets its regulatory requirements.”
The update comes after a growing pattern of workplace monitoring, just as Microsoft Teams' recent tracking feature. The main aim of the Android RCS Archival is to improve regulatory compliance with Google Pixel. In the end, experts recommend keeping personal and work chats separate and verifying whether the device is monitored.
