Canva released a big platform update Thursday, adding AI picture generation, interactive coding skills, and spreadsheet functionality to its famous design suite. It marks a significant extension of the company's offerings beyond its core design focus.
The Australian design platform is integrating Canva AI, a new AI helper. It can generate images from text prompts, make design concepts for social media, and even compose copy. The update's most notable feature is Canva Code, a tool created in collaboration with Anthropic. It lets users make interactive mini apps using straightforward suggestions.
"We started seeing teams inside Canva use AI a lot for prototyping. We thought of externalizing it and giving everyone the ability to code easily and create interactive experiences," explained Cameron Adams, Canva's Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer.
Canva AI: New Features Are Driven by Enterprise Focus!
Canva is launching Canva Sheets, a visual spreadsheet tool with AI-powered features like Magic Insights. It automatically surfaces data patterns and Magic Charts that transform raw numbers into brand-specific visualizations as an extension of its enterprise offering. It was introduced last year.
With the spreadsheet tool's support for connectors with Statista, Google Analytics, and HubSpot, teams may import external data with ease. With these upgrades, Canva is better positioned to take on Google's and Microsoft's productivity suites.
In order to compete with Adobe's products, the company has also improved its photo editing skills. It has added AI tools that let users change pieces with ease and build backdrops that take layout and lighting into account.
These additions occur in spite of artists' growing apprehensions over AI design tools. Adams has a more positive outlook on technology than many creators. These creators are concerned about their work being used to train AI models without their consent and possible risks to creative professions.
Canva's Visual Suite is now a complete platform, as per the recent release. It enables users to create and modify documents, presentations, animations, and websites in a single format. The update eliminates the need to go away for separate specialized tools and enables teams to work on multiple projects at once.
