'Tis the holiday season! OpenAI is going great amidst this bristling time. The tech company on 22nd December rolled out a new annual recap feature called “Your Year with ChatGPT,” a personalized, year-end experience offering a look back at how they interacted with the AI chatbot throughout the entire year. This feature is available for eligible users in selected markets and the US.
The new update reflects inspiration from Spotify style Wrapped, which created a buzz. YouTube also launched its Recap to showcase the year's most-watched videos.
What is “Your Year with ChatGPT”?
The feature showcases users' insights through a visually engaging, pastel-themed summary that spotlights user interests, patterns, and interaction style. Indeed, the best way to check out how the year went with ChatGPT.
Currently, the feature is available in selected countries including Canada, the United States, the U.K, Australia, and New Zealand, across web and mobile platforms.
It is accessible only to users on Free, Plus, and Pro ChatGPT plans, provided they are enabled on both “reference saved memories” and “references chat history” and meet a minimum activity threshold. The recap is not available for Team, Enterprise, or Education accounts.
How to Access and What You’ll See?
The difference is that anyone can participate and get a check on their yearly recap. Meaning, it is optional. Users should manually prompt ChatGPT with queries such as “Show my year with ChatGPT” to generate their review.
Unlike some automated year-end summaries, participation is voluntary. Users must manually prompt ChatGPT with queries such as “Show me my year with ChatGPT” to generate their review.
The interesting part about the Year with ChatGPT is that it gives personalized “awards” based on how users interact with ChatGPT. For example, you can be awarded “Creative Debugger” if you have used a chatbot to get a solution for a problem or worked around concepts or ideas for your projects. Alongside, ranks users within broader archetypes.
The following are some of the metrics included:
-
- Busiest chat day
- Total conversations
- “Chat style”
ChatGPT also creates poems and AI-created pixel art images that reflect the user’s most common interests.
OpenAI’s new feature, “Your Year with ChatGPT,” focusing on the year review, is similar to other tech giants that have come up with rewind features, such as YouTube, Spotify, Google, and more. 2025 was indeed a strategic and growth-focused year for OpenAI, filled with significant advancements, partnerships, and a move towards a privately held infrastructure.
